One of the most important aspects of men’s fashion is making sure your trainers look their best at all times. With some sneakerheads queuing up for days for the new Jordan or Yeezy release, the least you can do is keep your kicks clean. However, with the fickle nature of British weather, this can be difficult, especially with light weight materials and bright colours being used in a lot of trainers these days. However, with proper care and attention, your fake air jordan can keep that box fresh look no matter how much you wear them. These simple tips will show you how to care for the most popular materials used in trainers, and keep your creps looking tidy for much longer.
Canvas
For some people, canvas shoes have to have that ‘lived in’ look, especially skate shoes. However, if you are a stickler for perfection and need your kicks immaculate, there are a few ways to keep canvas looking its best. One solution is to put them on a light spin in the washing machine. Make sure you put them in a pillow case and remove the laces, and remember that doing this too much might make brighter coloured trainers lose their vibrancy. Never let them dry on a radiator, as this will cause the shoes to distort and shrink in shape, which can actually be damaging to your feet let alone ruin your shoe game. Instead, let them dry naturally with rolled up newspaper inside to help the trainer retain its shape. If you need a quick solution to get a stain out or just freshen up your footwear, a scrub with a toothbrush using warm water and a bit of washing up liquid will do the trick perfectly.
Leather
Leather sneakers are probably the most hard wearing of trainers these days, so they don’t require that much attention to keep them looking their best. If you do encounter a questionably sticky puddle in nightclub toilets, a baby wipe or damp cloth can easily clean up any marks from leathers. If you do this every week, leather trainers should stay looking perfect for quite a while. The only problem with leather is that they can crease on the top, which probably won’t bother most people, but if you are intent on having improbably fly kicks, you can buy sneaker shields which stop your toes from bending a crease into the leather.
Suede
Suede is one of the most popular materials used in shoes recently, offering smartness whilst still retaining a casual feel. Despite being popular, they are also the hardest to keep clean, with even water being a danger to suede. If you’ve decided to treat yourself to some new suede shoes, make sure you buy some suede protector, which will form a resilient shield against any stains and dirt. If you get caught in a rain storm with your new shoes and there is no wear to hide, these is a few things you can do to get them looking like they’ve just came out the store again. Wait till they have dried naturally (avoid the radiator) and use a suede brush to remove any water marks by gently working your way over the shoe.
Rubber
Much like leather, rubber is one of the easier materials to keep clean. However, as many trainers now use white vulcanised rubber on the sole of the shoe, they do need some upkeep. One super secret tip is to use alcohol hand sanitizer on the rubber parts of your trainers, as this will remove any grime and marks really easily. Be careful not to get this on any fabric or suede parts as it may cause discolouration, but this will really change the look of tired, worn out shoes.
